2025-12-15 IZZY DOLLS PRESENTATION

At our General Membership Meeting this evening we had a presentation by Army Cadets Sgt. William Lindner and Warrant Officer Reagan Williams about the Izzy Doll project.

The Izzy Doll initiative honours Master Corporal Mark ‘Izzy’ Isfeld, a Canadian peacekeeper killed in Croatia on 21 June, 1994. The project began when Mark’s mother, Carol Isfeld, crocheted small dolls for him to give to children affected by the war. After his death, his unit named the dolls ‘Izzy’ dolls and continued distributing them.

Over the years, volunteers across Canada and abroad have created nearly 2 million Izzy Dolls. These dolls have been distributed to 130 crisis zones worldwide, including Nepal, Haiti, Ukraine, Syria, and throughout Africa.

The goal now for our community is to get volunteers to make 500 Izzy Dolls.  Plans are underway to bring people together on Sunday, January 25, 2026 at Branch 54 to make Izzy Dolls.  Breakfast, of course, will be on for the morning, and the knitting/crocheting will follow. Stay tuned for more details as the time approaches.

SANTA VISIT & CAROLLING

On Saturday, December 20th Santa is visiting Branch 54 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.  The Grinch may also show up.

Then, at 1:00 pm a bus  with all who want to join in, will leave the Branch to visit the Extendicare, some widows of Veterans, and Northdale Manor. Song sheets will be provided for the Christmas Carols we will sing. Once the bus gets back to Branch 54 we can gather around an outside campfire with hot chocolate. And then in the lounge for a movie.

The public is invited.  Please come and help get people into the Christmas Spirit.

2025-11-06 LIFT/ELEVATOR OPERATIONAL

Branch 54 is very pleased to announce that our Lift is now operational. Those who wish to use the Lift, they can press the call button beside the door to the lift, and an attendant will come to operate the lift.  It requires a key to operate, so it doesn't work like a normal elevator.

The lift is an important part of our renovation project, making all parts of the building more accessible.
